Everyday Red Gems (Under $20)
2008 Fontanafredda Barbera "Briccotondo"
Piedmont, Italy
$15.99
This Barbera was popular during a Tuesday Tasting so we decided to start carrying it regularly! The grapes for this wine are grown on estate-owned vineyards located on hillsides in the Monferrato and Langhe region of Piedmount. The nose is packed with black fruit, especially blackberries and plums, with slight spicy overtones hinting at black pepper and cinnamon. Sweet, soft tannins come together in a closely-woven texture that merges with the fruit, while a crisp freshness provides a long, tasty finish.
2005 JanKris "Crossfire"
Paso Robles, California
$14.99
Paso Robles is known for being a warmer grape growing area in California which usually translates to riper, more fruit-driven wines. From JanKris this blend of 50% Cabernet Sauvignon, 25% Merlot and 25% Syrah offers dark plum and cherry fruit, chocolate, vanilla and a peppery, earthy kick at the end. Possesses a good deal of complexity for the price, benefits from some air time so sip slowly!
2008 Domaine du Cros Marcillac "Lo Sang del Pais"
Southwest France
$13.99
Another crazy European wine Marc loves! Marcillac is located east of Bordeaux and near the areas of Cahors and Montpeyroux. The Domaine du Cros is one of Marcillac's best estates and their red wines are 100% Fer Servadou, also known as Mansois. The vines in this bottling average 25 years of age. While there's abundant red currant, raspberry fruit, you also get fresh acidity along with garden herb, straw, iron flecks and black pepper. It's a "country wine" in the best sense and unique in its own right. Please try it!

The base wines are then blended and bottled with a bit of yeast to age for 18 months on lees prior to disgorging. The dosage is made with the most neutral flavored liquor to allow the flavor of the original grapes to shine. Clean and refreshing just the way it's supposed to be!

2007 Byrd-Cooper Zinfandel
California
$23.99
This Zin is made by Californian legend Bruce Neyers of Neyers Vineyards, and named after Bruce's maternal grandfather, Byrd Cooper. In 2007 they made wine from a new block of Zinfandel vines owned by Rich Pato, and decided to bottle it separately, using the Byrd Cooper label. The finished wine has about 5% Petite Syrah and 5% Mourvèdre in the blend. It was fermented completed naturally with indigenous wild yeast, and was bottled with neither fining nor filtration. The finished wine is ripe, and it’s loaded with fresh berry flavors -- charming in an almost innocent way. The low alcohol level makes it easy to down a bottle. Real lovely Zinfandel.
NV Champalou Vouvray Brut
Loire Valley, France
$25.99
Didier and Catherine Champalou have only been established in the Vouvray region for 15 years and their sparkling Vouvray is made exclusively from the Chenin Blanc grape. It is made by the traditional method, with second fermentation happening in the bottles which are then stored in the dank cool cellars to develop, the low temperatures influencing the great finesse of the bubbles. Dry with a mild toastiness, it's a gorgeously scented, honeyed quince and apple flavored wine which underscores that excellent French sparkling wines exist outside of Champagne! Try it before the holidays and then load up!
